Yes, you read it right! The big and bulky Chevrolet Suburban has added another feather in its cap. It has now become the 1st inanimate object to get its own Star at Hollywood’s prestigious Walk of Fame.
The prestigious award of Excellence star was bestowed on the Suburban by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for the SUV’s 67-year career in Hollywood’s film and television industry. The award was unveiled at a ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard.
One of the big reasons for the Suburban being given this honor comes from the SUVs’ long association with Hollywood. Rana Ghadban, president and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, commented, “For six decades the Chevrolet Suburban has been Hollywood’s longest-working actor”.

The Suburban’s relationship with Hollywood first began in 1952, when it appeared on the silver screen for the very 1st time. Since then, the Suburban hasn’t turned back from Hollywood. Chevrolet claims that the Suburban has starred in almost 1,750 films and TV series. Also, the Suburban has made its on-screen appearance for at least once in a TV series since 1956, and at least one movie since 1960.
Interestingly, the Tahoe from Chevrolet is also making deep strides in Hollywood and following the footprints of its elder sibling. If one were to combine the total on-screen appearances of the Tahoe and the Suburban, the number of movies and TV appearances would go over 2,500. Chevrolet also claims that like the Suburban, the Tahoe has made it to the silver screen, at least once every year, since its debut in 1995.
Now, what significance does this award bring to the automotive industry on the whole? Well firstly, with this award, a new dimension for inanimate objects to get recognized on a bigger scale opens up. Throughout the time when automobiles have appeared on the big screen, there have been many vehicles, that have stood out from the rest. Be it the DeLorean DMC-12 from Back to the Future franchise of movies or the Chevrolet Camaro from the Transformers franchise or even the Dodge Challenger from the Fast and the Furious series of movies. All these vehicles have made a big mark on the minds of the viewers and created a cult following of theirs in a lot of ways.

Secondly, with the ongoing transition from gas-powered vehicles to eco-friendly vehicles, our future generations, wouldn’t be able to understand the importance and the impact that these gas-powered vehicles had on our lives. By honoring automobiles in this manner will certainly leave some impact of the fossil fuel-powered vehicles on the minds of the generations to come.
Talking more about the Suburban and the Tahoe, both these vehicles are to be unveiled in their 2021 avatars, later this month and we expect a lot of changes on the same front. What we know so far, is the fact that both these SUVs will be based on GM’s new T1 truck platform and will feature an independent rear suspension as well.
